Francis is wearing the apron I bought Sally at Harrod's in London back in November 2001. Remember? That was the trip when Sally thought I was going to propose and I wasn't planning on it. Boy, that was a fun trip.

Enchilada Night

Because not enough pictures of Sally get blogged...
This is Sally and George on the Blue Line headed downtown on Saturday. We all went to family days at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. George toddled around and marveled at the huge fish in their indoor pond. Francis made some art herself. And we all enjoyed a performance by Barrel of Monkeys adapting poems written by area children for the stage.

Happy Halloween
Here's a quick look at our gang minutes before we hit the pavement for free candy. Francis was a tightrope walker ( I made her costume), Matt wore his old glee club tux and was the ringmaster, I wore my old high stepper uniform and was a... lion tamer? circus performer, and Georgie was a goat. Kristen is visiting and was a cat and her little RJ was little red riding hood. Thanks to Kristen we have amazing photos of our day. Click the above title to see the entire set of photos.

Follow the Red Brick Road
After months of waking up to beeping construction trucks, our brick street is finally finished. it's been a blast having the road closed - we've had giant sand piles to play in and trucks to climb on. However, all of that fun came to an end on Monday when they cut the ribbon and moved the barricades to our beautiful new Humphrey Ave.
In celebration, we decided to have a kid parade and as you can see, Francis took the task very seriously. She dressed up as a "boo-tiful princess" and Georgie is wearing Francis's old Chewbacca costume. My favorite part of her "float" was the Nicor Gas Company flag (that was previously a marker in our yard) or maybe it was the balloon that said "719 rules!" It's a tough call.

God Bless America!
We celebrated our nation's birthday with a parade, a trip to the park, and then barbecued ribs with our next-door neighbors. It doesn't get any more American than that. Grandma Carns helped us get into the holiday spirit with patriotic gifts (notice Francis's hat and purse in the pictures).
At the parade, we saw the greatest entry of any parade since the dawn of parading: this guy. He stood in the back of his cabriolet, guitar in hand and amp plugged in, thrashing the Oak Park parade all the way up Ridgeland Ave.

MOVIE: Happy Tapping with Francis

We bought Francis some tap shoes a couple of weeks ago and she absolutely loves them. The shoes are on the short list of things that have changed my life as a parent. We went to the zoo last week and she insisted on wearing them. Initially, I thought this was a bad idea... some of you know that tap shoes can be a little "slick" and so when she's wearing them, I find myself peeling a sad little monkey off the ground every 15 mintues. However, I soon realized that the little extra drama might be worth it. We happened upon a record breaking day of attendance at the zoo and lucky for me, I knew where Francis was at all times. I would find myself having to turn around and not have her in my eyesight for whatever reason, but no worries. I could here little Francy tap tapping right behind me.

Happy belated St. Patrick's Day
Francis and I took the el downtown for the Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade. We had a great time laughing at all of the people with funny hats, watching the bucket drummers, checking out the green river, eating Garrett's popcorn, and meeting up with the Browns for lunch...where mommy drank some green beer. All in all a great day... except that Matt and Georgie were home sick!

Devon Excursion
Last weekend we had the pleasure of meeting up with our friends Imron and his fiancé, Muniza. We decided to meet them on Devon in Chicago, an area known for its great Indian food. We had high hopes of finding an outfit for me to wear to their wedding. Something authentic to complement their traditional ceremony this May. In fact, their wedding day will be on our 5 year anniversary! (Well, one of THREE of their wedding days.) Despite not finding the outfit, we had a great time. We ate an amazing lunch and enjoyed the company. Congratulations again you two!

Sledding at Taylor Park
Bright and early Saturday morning, we met up with the Breits and Perriers at our local favorite pancake house (George's on Oak Park Ave.), and headed to the sledding hill. The kids had a blast. Francis took just one ride down the hill, and preferred to watch and encourage Noah and Ellie. We also ran into our friend Chris and his son. It's nice to bump into people you know. It makes this place feel like home. ;)
