I tried to get her to smile, but she refused. She takes Saint Patrick's Day very seriously. After all, she is like an 1/8 Irish ... or something like that. The Carns clan are Irish/English. Anyway, she appears to object to merrymaking on this holy day. She prefers to spend the day meditating about the six years St. Patrick spent as a captive of the Irish raiders who looted his family's estate. I overheard her say to Scout, "You don't know anything about sacred heritage, you filthy german dog." Then she nodded grimly and took a long pull from her bottle.
