Krispy Kreme Challenge

A few years ago, when my friend Dave was preparing to run the Ironman triathlon, I wanted to show my support. Here's the plan we came up with over lunch: I would monitor the progress of the 140.6-mile race, and eat one donut for every mile that Dave completed.

Despite Sally's support for the idea, I decided not to do it. I don't remember if it was a moment of sanity, or if I was just plain chicken, but I didn't do it.

Nevertheless, here's a melding of exertion and donut consumption that actually happens: the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh, North Carolina. The 2008 Challenge will take place tomorrow.

To Complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge is to:

1) Run 2 miles from the NC State Belltower to the Krispy Kreme on Peace Street.

2) Eat 1 dozen donuts.

3) Run 2 miles back to the Belltower.

4) Do all this in under one hour.
The only way this event could be improved is if competitors were required to hydrate with Coca-Cola. Godspeed, young titans.

thanks for the mention of our event! i was an organizer in 2006 and 2007, and competed in it as well both years. i've finished my studies at NC State now, but all us organizers who started the event are still helping by advising this year. 3000 people, bigger and better

I ran a very similar route as a hung over ROTC cadet several times. At least the Krispy Kremers will only be full on the way back.

Uncle Matt,

That is ridiculously funny. I think you should go for it. But make it dramatic so the Lifetime producers will make a movie about one man's determination to finish even while carrying 12 sugar- coated donuts in his bulging stomach. TALK ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT

Also, I have a question for mi tia but I'm lacking her e-mail address.
Could you help me out?
